Hard to obtain first round picks

Hard to obtain first round picks

Why are the first round picks so high valued? I think that rebuilding is so difficult because obtaining first round picks is just so hard. I think that 3-3.5 star players should be enough for a first round pick or two. What is the opinion of others?

A 3-3.5 star player is a pretty big range of player but the question is what are the offers here and who are you offering them to? If you're offering players with bad contracts a team won't want that. If you're trying to trade with a rebuilder they probably don't want to trade picks. The aprons make trading difficult in some cases where a team would gladly trade a late pick for a player that could help them but its not legal for them to add the salary because of the aprons. If you want to post some cap legal trade offers I can certainly run them through and see why the AI is rejecting them and if its valid logic.

I think that you are right, old bad contract 3-3.5 star players should not be enough to get first round picks (only in rare occasions). I have one question though - do player's stats play a part in trades? If a 3 star players plays exceptionally well (25ppg, 10apg), will the AI give better offers for the player, or the AI is designed purely to trade based on the player's star rating? Thanks in advance!

The AI is going to look and evaluate what the player is worth to them - stats can play a role in that but mostly is going to rely on their perception of the player so on the flip side if you have a guy who is not playing he still could have value to some other team who sees that he could play for them. A player might be putting up good stats on a bad team (hence the reason why he's putting up such good stats) and the AI will look at it and see that he's not going to have that kind of role on its team and therefore will value him for what he is worth to them as opposed to what 25/10 would be worth if they legit felt he would get 25/10 for them.
